University Press Plc (UPPlc) has received the Nigerian Book Fair Trust’s (NBFT) Golden Legacy Award at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Nigeria International Book Fair (NIBF) for their enduring contributions to literacy, education and the publishing industry in Nigeria.
UPPlc earned the award in recognition of its pivotal role in promoting literacy and advancing education as one of the foundational institutions in Nigeria’s educational and publishing landscape for more than five decades.
The award was presented during a grand ceremony held at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, Iganmu, Lagos, as part of activities marking the silver jubilee edition of the Nigeria International Book Fair.
With a history spanning 77 years, University Press Plc has remained one of Nigeria’s foremost publishing institutions, contributing significantly to educational publishing, scholarly development and the growth of knowledge across generations.
After receiving the award on behalf of the company, the Executive Director of University Press Plc, Mrs Folakemi Bademosi, described the recognition as a testament to the organisation’s unwavering commitment to the development of Nigeria’s publishing industry.
The award was presented by a former President of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Dr Camilus Uka.
Bademosi told Oyo Reporters Online that the honour reflected a legacy deeply rooted in academic excellence and intellectual advancement in Nigeria.
She noted that University Press Plc had consistently produced quality educational books, literary works and instructional materials that have continued to shape teaching and learning in schools across the country.
The event also celebrated renowned intellectuals and industry veterans whose contributions have become enduring reference points in Nigeria’s educational and literary history. Among them was Dr Kolade Mosuro, proprietor of The Booksellers, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
University Press Plc reaffirmed its commitment to literacy promotion, educational accessibility, publishing excellence, advocacy and the advancement of a vibrant reading culture in Nigeria.
Beyond the presentation of awards, the 25th anniversary celebration of the Nigeria International Book Fair underscored the transformative power of education, literacy and publishing in shaping individuals and driving national development.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Nigerian Book Fair Trust, Mr Dare Oluwatuyi, said the Nigeria International Book Fair had, for 25 years, remained a beacon of learning, publishing and creative enterprise in the country.
