A socio-cultural group, the Oyo Alaafin Forum, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for appointing Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Nigeria’s new Minister of Power following the resignation of Chief Adebayo Adelabu.
The Forum comprises prominent sons and daughters of Oyo town residing in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement issued on Thursday, signed by the Forum’s Chairman, Engineer Segun Owolabi, and Director of Media, Ambassador Tunde Mustapha, the group described Tegbe’s appointment as strategic and commendable.
The statement describes Tegbe as “a consummate professional” with vast experience across both the public and private sectors, adding that his leadership qualities and managerial expertise make him well-suited to drive reforms in Nigeria’s power sector.
The Senate had on Wednesday confirmed Tegbe’s appointment, after which he pledged to begin the process which would lead to turning around the nation’s electricity sector within 100 days in office.
Reaffirming its support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Forum praised his administration’s economic reforms and governance policies.
It noted that the President’s bold initiatives were gradually restoring confidence in the nation’s economy and laying the foundation for long-term prosperity.
While endorsing Tinubu for a second term in 2027, the group appealed to the President to consider appointing a qualified indigene of Oyo town as minister representing Oyo State in future appointments.
It argued that the ancient town had suffered years of underrepresentation in federal ministerial positions despite producing competent individuals capable of serving at the national level.
Reflecting on previous administrations, the group pointed out that ministerial appointments from Oyo State had largely gone to Ibadan, Ogbomoso, and Saki, while Oyo Town had remained excluded.
It therefore urged President Tinubu to address what it described as a longstanding imbalance by considering competent sons or daughters of Oyo town in future federal appointments.
The group maintained that such a move would promote fairness, inclusivity, and stronger trust between the people and the Federal Government, while reiterating its commitment to supporting the Tinubu administration and its development agenda for Nigeria.
